WTU3A Local History Group – May to September

13 May, 2019

We completed the series of talks for the first few months of 2019 and are now moving into the summer months when we have some guided walks and visits to enjoy.  The last talk we had on 23rd April on aspects of heraldry by John Hockey was particularly informative and very amusing with great anecdotes.

Full details of the programme to September is shown below.

“Guided Walk around Historical Marlow” with Geoff Wood.  This trip is now full.

The cost will be £2.50 which is payable on the day.

The visit to the Pitstone Museum has been confirmed and will start at 10:00am. They have revamped the museum and increased the number of exhibits and there is also an excellent website if you wish to have a look for yourselves. The cost would be £6 per head to include coffee and biscuits and they can take up to 40 people. If the weather is good, they do have a picnic area if people wish to take a packed lunch. The visit will last about 2 hours. 20 people have already signed up and if you wish to go either email me or let me know at the next monthly U3A general meeting.  http://www.pitstonemuseum.co.uk/

Hughenden Manor have offered us a private introductory talk with coffee/tea and a Cake Bite. The cost of this is £3.75 per head payable on the day. We will then be free to visit the Manor, Gardens and the Church where Disraeli is buried. For those who are National Trust members the price is free but for non-members it will be £11.10. Remember to take your NT cards.

The plan is to meet at the visitor reception and then go for the talk. The maximum number for this visit is 35.  We will take names at the next general meeting or if you cannot be at that one you can always email me at localhistory@wtu3a.org.uk.

Mike Harrison works in a family business who carry out Picture and Art Restoration. and one of the restorations he has done was on a picture that has a value of £1M. It sounds like an interesting topic and if it is half as good as the one on heraldry we will be in for a treat.

Meeting is in the WT Chapel Room from 10:30 – 12:30am. Entrance will be £3.

A talk on Waddesdon Manor – to be confirmed
