Science & Technology Group … is flying, but do we know how?
Aviation may be a topic for the future but John Beer’s new group has had its inaugural meeting – primarily looking at CAD (Computer Aided Design) – and established the initial tranche of potential visits: Bletchley Park (Enigma and Colossus), London Museum of Water and Steam, Harwell “Diamond” Synchrotron, Amazon Warehouse Hemel/MK, Glaxo Smith Klyne, NATS Centre Fareham (National Air Traffic System), Arla Dairy and BMW Oxford – a wide range of applied and theoretical science and technology – and talks/discussions as wide ranging as ‘how long is a piece of string’, automation of clinical diagnosis and read more …
Zipline … yes, but Extreme Zipline!
Just like a geriatric bunch of lemmings, members are planning to travel to North Wales and leap off over a 500ft drop over jagged rock of a disused slate mine for a long hurtle down a long zip line (well, the longest in Europe at over 5,000ft) at pretty high speeds (well, actually the fastest in the WORLD, sometimes exceeding 150ft/second) … and paying for it! There’s even the opportunity for friends or relatives to come and watch or, for those of a nervous disposition, see the other features of the old mines.
Surprisingly the queues are forming for this trip! If you want to join in this enterprise look here for the details.

Where has the Information Gone?
Booking outings, meal venues and Extreme locations are requiring longer and longer lead times to ensure the best dates and, more often now, the greatest capacity. But at the same time we open the booking lists early as well.
This is not necessarily a problem but if you want to come back here some months later you may not find the details you found here before – we only show the most recent 10 postings on the Home Page after which they disappear … well not really, they are just not on view.
There are two options 1) At the bottom of the Home Page you’ll find « older entries that will take you back to 10 earlier entries or 2) Look at the top right corner of many pages for Search WTU3A pages and type full or part word(s) that you think was in the pages you want to retrieve in the search box and, like Google, it’ll display those posts and pages that have matching (part) contents or titles.
