Extreme Visits – Stock Car Racing

A challenge closer to home this time in Northwood – racing slot cars like we did many years ago. Agonising, wasn’t it! Trying to keep on the track was the most difficult combined with regular interruption to drive power but now the technology has caught up with the youthful dream and our trip will be to a permanent layout with an 8-lane ultra-smooth Ninco circuit (OK, so I don’t know how good they are but they are very popular!), with perfect electrical connections, sophisticated race control system that gives you accurate lap and race times, positions, fastest laps etc.
The ultimate child’s wish will also be granted as we’ll not have to tidy up and put the tracks away in the box before returning home!
Here’s Adrian’s description and details
Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – August 2016

Attention is being raised to how groups are administered and the nature of monthly meetings – please vote on the latter on 25th or by e-Mail if you are not attending that meeting – see the newsletter for what is being asked.
If you know anything about Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL please let me (web.master@WTU3A.org.uk) as I too need a deputy!

Annual Dementia Test 2016
Yep, it’s that time of year again for us to take our annual senior citizen test.
Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it’s important to keep mentally alert. If you don’t use it, you lose it!
Here is a very private way to gauge how your memory compares to your last test. Some may think it is too easy, but the ones with memory problems may have difficulty.
Take this test to determine if you’re losing it or not.
Don’t select the next page until your have considered your answer carefully.
OK, relax, clear your mind and begin. (Click next numbered page when you have an answer)
Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – July 2016

What a range of stuff we get up to! Mandi Simons’ newsletter contains a wide range of upcoming activities and notice of some cracking challenges!
Several activities have limited victim participant numbers, others potentially huge application numbers – if it’s both then apply quickly!
Here’s a link to the Newsletter so there’s no reason not to note what’s on and what you want to take part in.
Weston Turville U3A do it again!
Over the last few months you have probably been aware that the Extreme Visits group have been designing and constructing a go-cart to enter the Aylesbury Town Council Soapbox Derby.
That event took place on 19th June. Our entry, lovingly named Jemima, may not have been the fastest go cart there, but the general public took her to their hearts. It may have been her plaintive quacking in the pits, her egg laying capabilities on the run, or even her final glorious transformation to a mallard that earned her votes.
I am delighted to tell you that she was the winner of the people’s choice “Best Looking” award and her team were able take the winner’s podium to be presented with the trophy.
Thanks must go to all those who helped in any way with the design and construction (some of whom will now be suffering from empty-nest syndrome); to the long -suffering wives and to everyone who came to support the team.
On their number-plate, proudly displayed, were the U3A principles Learn, Laugh and Live. I think everyone involved with this project certainly did that. Our heartiest congratulations go to them all!
