Science & Technology

**IMPORTANT UPDATE – PLEASE NOTE**
TRIP CANCELLED

The visit on 2nd May to the London Transport Museum, Acton has been cancelled due to lack of numbers, but will be rescheduled for early November. 

Friday, 5th May, a visit to Chiltern Open Air Museum.  Entry and tour cost £10.  Full details on the attached flyer

Thursday, 1st June, a visit to the Battle of Britain Bunker and Museum near Uxbridge. The cost is £10 for a private tour of the Bunker and to visit the museum. Own transport is planned and other arrangements can be made for those who cannot make the 70 odd stairs down to the Bunker Operations room. The trip is planned for 11-00 am. Refreshments are available in the entrance hall. 

Thursday, 5th October a visit and afternoon tour to The National Museum of Computing, near Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes. Details and cost to follow.

Coach Trip – Monday 17th April

The Holland Park Set – Holland Park, Kyoto Garden & Leighton House

Please note this is a new trip as the Cambridge trip that was originally advertised is not happening until later this year.  

Mandi Simons and Jayne Lennard have now arranged a trip on Monday 17th April.  The background details of this trip can be found here Leaving at 10.30am and returning around 8pm to miss worst of traffic.  Cost will be in region of £45 each but the final cost will be advised shortly.  There are approximately 20 places still available.

Cook for the King

We would like you to create a dish that celebrates and reflects Britain in 2023. You could consider King Charles III’s campaigning on sustainable farming practices or something that celebrates the diversity in British cuisine today – but it is up to you –  please be as creative as you wish. 

We would love the u3a movement to find the dish of 2023 and we aim to send all the recipes to the Palace.
Please see more details and how to submit your recipes (and any pictures you have of the cooked dish) on the Events page on our website.  This initiative ends on 10 April.

Musical Night – 14th April

Following on from the success of the 60s night back in September we are holding another Musical Night with The Blue Moons at The Rugby Club commencing 7.30p.m.

Tickets will be £8 per person as this time we will not be providing any catering. You may bring snacks / nibbles along.  If you wish to reserve a table of 10 you may do so.

Thursday, 1st June, a visit to the Battle of Britain Bunker and Museum near Uxbridge. Own Transport.  Tour cost £8.

The Great Exhibition by David Morton

A talk by David Morton on the history of the Great Exhibition, an idea from Prince Albert to showpiece the art, design, and manufacturing of the British Empire. It follows the controversial design, build and subsequent history of The Crystal Palace. We also learn about the legacy of The Great Exhibition and what remains today.

At Home with Agatha Christie the Wallingford and Cholsey connection – Judy Dewey

As Curator of Wallingford Museum, and a professional historian and lecturer, Judy Dewey has taken a keen interest in the life of Agatha Christie and her second husband, Max Mallowan.  From 1934-1976, they made their home at Winterbrook House, on the outskirts of Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
