Covid Vaccinations Update & Patient Journey Guide (Buckinghamshire Council)

18 January, 2021

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine

Your GP will either call you or send a letter inviting you to your vaccination appointment.  Please do not call the GP or go to the vaccination site without an invitation.

There are a number of different ways you could be vaccinated:

  • Local Vaccination Sites (run by Buckinghamshire GPs). GPs are also delivering the vaccine directly to care homes for their residents and staff.
  • Pharmacy Sites
  • National mass vaccination sites
  • Hospital sites for health and social care staff

All vaccination sites have parking on site or nearby. The public car parks will have a charge.

Local vaccination sites

In Buckinghamshire, all GP Led sites will be operating by 25 January and all residents over the age of 80 will be offered a vaccination appointment locally through their GP Practice by the end of January.  All GPs are involved in the rollout of the vaccination programme, through eight GP led sites across the county.

Vaccinations are not delivered at GP surgeries but at the vaccination site they are linked to – the Aylesbury Covid-19 Vaccination Centre, at the Indoor Bowls Centre, Stoke Mandeville Stadium, is linked to the following GP surgeries:

  • Berryfields Medical Centre.
  • Edlesborough Surgery.
  • Haddenham Medical Centre.
  • Mandeville Surgery.
  • Meadowcroft Surgery.
  • Oakfield Surgery.
  • Poplar Grove Practice.
  • Westongrove PCN.

Covid Vaccine – Local information and Scams

8 January, 2021

Westongrove Surgery have put together some FAQs about the covid-19 vaccine.  These will be updated regularly on the Westongrove Facebook page when more information becomes available to them.  The main points are:

📍 When will patients start being vaccinated?

Our COVID-19 vaccination programme will begin from w/c 18TH JANUARY 2021 (subject to receiving the vaccine).

📍 When are you expecting to receive your first vaccinations?

The first batch of 975 vaccines should be delivered between 13th-15th January 2021 but this has not yet been completely confirmed. We will be vaccinating NHS and care home staff with this first batch. This will allow us to test all of the systems at the vaccination centre and iron out any problems ahead of vaccinating the wider community. There is also a significant probability that the vaccines will not arrive on time and appointments will need rescheduling over the following days.
We are expecting a further delivery at some point during the week commencing 18th January. Once we have a confirmed date we can then start booking patients in for their vaccinations. We will have to do this quite close to the vaccination date to minimise the risk of having to reschedule hundreds of appointments should the vaccine delivery be delayed.

📍 Where will the vaccination centre be based?

The vaccination will be administered at the indoor bowls arena in Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Guttmann Road, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire HP21 9PP. There will be a team of Marshalls to help direct you when you arrive.

Westongrove Partnership-Covid Vaccine Information

1 January, 2021

From the Westongrove Practice for those wondering about vaccines

“Over the last few weeks we have been working tirelessly with our neighbouring practices to set up a Covid vaccination centre in Aylesbury using the Pfizer Covid vaccine. The logistics around this have proved to be very complicated and we are still awaiting information about when the vaccine will be delivered before we can start inviting people for the vaccination.

The news of the Oxford Astra-Zeneca Covid vaccine being approved earlier this week has given us all a much needed boost heading into 2021. The fact that this vaccine is much easier to store should allow us to run our local Covid vaccination program more along the lines of our annual flu clinics. We are currently awaiting more information about how the vaccine has to be administered and when we might receive this vaccine. Once we have that information we will be leaving no stone unturned in getting everyone vaccinated as quickly as the supply of vaccine allows.
