National u3a Newsletter – November 2020 🍂

The 🍂 November 2020 🍂 newsletter highlights the U3A’s national winter learning programme to keep us all inspired and learning throughout the current lockdown period and the colder months ahead. 

The u3a website now has a new look, so check the website regularly for the latest news, tutorials and events.  There are a number of online learning events, to get involved in, including a Festive Cookery Demonstration and talks from the British Library and The National Trust. See these and more on the events page.

Ongoing initiatives are continuing so have a look at our learning pages to see everything that you can get involved in.

Friends of Wendover Health Centre – reopened

For those members that use Wendover Health Centre we have been advised that The Friends of Wendover Health Centre desk has reopened!

You can call  between 1pm and 3pm on weekdays to book transport to a medical appointment or to ask for your prescription to be delivered.  (Regular prescription deliveries will continue as in lockdown).

Free on-line talks

Mirthy broadcast educational and entertaining online talks and are offering a FREE talk every Thursday which is open to U3A members to join in. 

The talks are viewed from the comfort and safety of your own home, so click on the link below to register for the talk – there will be a live Q&A with the speaker and a chance to interact with other attendees by typing comments in a chat box. The talk for 19th November is ‘The Grace Kelly Story’.

After registering for an event, you will receive an email containing a link to attend the talk.  

U3A Thames Valley Network – Christmas with your Ukulele!

Please find attached the information and application for the fun session with George Bonner and the ukulele on Thursday, 3rd December 2020, 10.30am, run by u3a Thames Valley Network.

This is a follow-on from the very successful Ukulele for Beginners session which we held earlier this year.  Priority booking for the Christmas session was given to members who had attended that event, but now it is open to all members, and there are still some places available. Please get in touch with Patsy to check availability if you would like to join in.

 

AVu3a- Sounds of 50s/70s – 10th November

We know that some WTU3A members used to go to the ‘Sounds of 50s/70s’ events that Aylesbury Vale U3A used to run at the Aylesbury Tennis Club, so the organiser is happy to invite our members to join the Zoom meetings they are currently running.   

The next event is on Tuesday 10th November at 2pm via Zoom.   There will be 2 presentations:

‘The Rockin’ 70’s’ – John Wilford

‘Commercial Radio at 100 and 1 day’ – Brian Little

Online Tour – free event – 9th November

5 November, 2020   

UKToursOnline.com have written to us to advise that they are offering a free virtual tour that members may be interested in during the current lockdown.  Normally their talks are £6 and last 30 minutes (plus time for questions), all delivered via Zoom. You can see the full list here.  They are introducing their online talks with this special free event – a virtual stroll around London’s Parliament Square on Monday 9th November 2020 12:30 – 13:30.

ART versus PHOTOGRAPHY study day via Zoom – u3a Thames Valley Network

ART versus PHOTOGRAPHY study day is taking place on Wednesday, 16th December 2020 at 10.30 via Zoom hosted by u3a TVN.  Full details can be found in the attached flyer.

The objective of this event is to provide us with an understanding of the interactions between Art and Photography.  This event consists of lectures in two parts (10.30am and 12.30pm) presented by Keith Appleby who taught Art and Design and Photography.  He is a u3a member so there is no charge for the day.  If you would like to join the event, TVN are now able to host 500 connections via Zoom, so please complete the attached application form.
