This presentation by Mark Lovett, will concentrate on the 20th / 21st Centuries:- how the role evolved, how the personalities involved created new precedents for others to follow.

Thursday, 10th June at 10.30am – The Lady and the Generals
Bjorn Watson, the u3a member who gave us the fascinating ‘Brunel to Eden’ lecture earlier this year, now returns to share with us his knowledge of wider events. This talk grew out of his interest in Myanmar (formerly Burma) where his parents lived and worked. This is the story of the iconic Aung San Suu Kyi and her fall from grace.

Friday 16th June at 10.30am on Zoom – Fighting Franco – Oxfordshire and the Spanish Civil War
Colin Carritt, Chair of the Oxford International Brigade Memorial Committee talks about Oxfordshire and the Spanish Civil War 1936 -1939 with particular reference to some of the individuals and characters who went to Spain.
