WTU3A Local History Group – May to November 2019

22 July, 2019

The programme for the rest of 2019 has now been completed.  Those who went on the visits to Marlow and Pitstone certainly had an excellent time and hopefully there is plenty to interest you in the coming months, although the visit to Hughenden Manor is now fully booked.

Please note there is a change to the speaker that was originally planned for September so check out the details below.

The visit to the Hughenden Manor & Gardens. They have offered us a private introductory talk with coffee/tea and a Cake Bite. The cost of this is £3.75 per head payable on the day. We will then be free to visit the Manor, Gardens and the Church where Disraeli is buried. For those who are National Trust members the price is free but for non-members it will be £11.10. Remember to take your NT cards. The plan is to meet at the visitor reception and then go for the talk.

FULLY BOOKED

As a substitute for the original speaker Colin Oakes has agreed to come along and give a talk entitled:Chesham – Boots, Brushes, Booze and Baptists

For those of you who have not heard Colin speak before he is an excellent and amusing speaker. This talk from a list of 153 that he has in his catalogue as it is local and subject seems to have an amusing twist.

Meeting is in the WT Chapel Room from 10:30 – 12:30am. Entrance will be £3.

Glynn will give the talk at this meeting and there are a couple of topics he could talk about:

A Historical Pictorial “Walk” around Weston Turville

The Contents of the Weston Turville Historical Society Website

Glynn will ask for you to say which of these you would like at the September meeting and we can go with the majority.

Meeting is in the WT Chapel Room from 10:30 – 12:30am. Entrance will be free.

Bob Keating will give this talk.  Many of us will have been to Waddesdon and it will be interesting to hear more about the Rothschilds and why Waddesdon Manor was built and much of the history behind it.

Meeting is in the WT Chapel Room from 10:30 – 12:30am. Entrance will be £3.
