The English Civil War in Wallingford – a talk by Judy Dewey.

The period of the Civil War from 1642-46 had an enormous impact on local life in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Namibia, a talk by Fay Sinai

Wednesday, 30th November 10.30am. on Zoom.

Fay Sinai will be speaking on Namibia on how this fantastic country shaped, and was shaped by events.

Rummikub

Tuesday, 18th October, The Five Bells, Weston Turville

The game of Rummikub is based loosely on Rummy (but with a twist).  Starting on 18th October the group then meets the third Tuesday of the month at 14:00 at The Five Bells, Weston Turville.  Contact the group leader Deborah Brown for more details at rummikub@wtu3a.org.uk.

 
Grub Club

Tuesday, 11th October at 12pm

The next outing is at Tring Garden Centre at 12 noon.  You can have a carvery for £6.99, or there are other lunch options as well, even if you’d just like a sandwich or scone etc. The scones are enormous!

Thursday, 6th October, The “Great Stink”
 
The next visit is the “Great Stink”, looking at the sewerage system in 19th century London.
 
This trip begins in central London tracking London’s lost rivers, then cruise the Thames to Greenwich and drive across the old Thames marshes to the extraordinary Cathedral of Sewage built to house the Crossness Engines.

SALISBURY CATHEDRAL AND WILTON HOUSE – Thursday, 1st September

Salisbury is home to one of our most iconic cathedrals and it houses one of only four surviving copies of Magna Carta. 

In the afternoon you visit Wilton House, home to the Earls of Pembroke since the 1540s.  

The cost including coach and entry to the Cathedral and Wilton House is £45.  Full details of this and other trips are on the website

NEW!  

FULHAM PALACE & KEW GARDENS – Tuesday, 4th October

Fulham Palace was the residence of the bishops of London for 750 years.  The house also has 13 acres of beautiful botanic garden

In the afternoon we visit Kew Gardens. Discover the recently renovated Temperate House or wander through the arboretum.

The cost including coach and entry to Kew, (Fulham Palace free) is £32.  Full details of this and other trips are on the website.

THE VYNE & HENLEY ON THAMES – Wednesday, 2nd November

The Vyne is a Tudor house built for Henry VIII’s Lord Chamberlain and sits in 1,500 acres of gardens and woodlands.  In the afternoon we call in at Henley-on-Thames.

The cost is £17 pp (The Vyne £12.35 extra for non-NT members).
