UK Garden Day – Sunday 9th May

National Gardening Week, is taking place from Monday 26 April to Sunday, 2 May 2021. The RHS annual celebration of gardening aims to raise awareness of gardening and horticulture, and to encourage more people to take part in the healthy and productive outdoor activity of gardening.

The speaker is Ruth Nobbs, who gave the enthralling talk on The Charge of the Light Brigade earlier this year. The talk is free of charge. Full details of the event can be found on this flyer. The closing date for applications is Monday, 3rd May.
Friday 14th May at 10.30 on Zoom – The History of Gardening – part 1
Dr David Marsh is the speaker for this 4-lecture event. The first two lectures today will look at when and how the interest in gardening began and where the plants in our gardens came from originally. The remaining two lectures will follow next week in Part 2 (separate flyer).

Friday 21st May at 10.30 on Zoom – The History of Gardening – part 2
The two final lectures look at the growth of interest amongst the 19th century middle class, how technology changed the face of our gardens and how the mass media has changed gardening in the 20th century.

u3a Ageism Webinars and latest u3a Radio Podcast now available
Push Back Ageism Webinars
As part of u3as work on Pushing Back Ageism they have partnered with researchers from the EuroAgeism consortium. They are researching topics on ageism as it relates to the media, health and technology. The researchers have asked for input, guidance and feedback from u3a members as part of this series of research projects on ageism. We really value your help and support with this important work.

Ageism in the Media – 26 April, 1pm-4pm
In this episode, the team discuss u3a day with organiser Sue Stokes, talk to a u3a member who has taken part in debates in the House of Lords, and discuss Zoom interest groups with Farnham u3a, amongst other stories from across the u3a movement.

The Third Age Trust has partnered with Run for the World – an organisation which hosts virtual running events They have monthly events and ‘Open’ events that you can compete in your own time.
