Science & Technology Events …
John Beer has been very active setting up Science & Technology group visits and meetings for the next few months.
|
|
* November 2nd – ‘History of Fireworks’ Colin Tufnell (Aston Clinton U3A Sci and Tech group). He will talk to us about fireworks – including a demonstration of fusing as part of the talk. That should go with a bang! |
| * December 7th – a member of Tring U3A Sci and Tech group will explain to us the development of the Bar code. | |
| * January 4th – no meeting. | |
| * February 1st – ‘Why Things Move’. Paul Brown of ATG will explain! This will be interesting, quirky and enjoyable. | |
| * March 7th (yes, a Wednesday!) – a morning trip to the Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury for a behind the scenes look at the equipment and arrangement for a stage production. | |
| * April ?? – tentative arrangements to join with other groups for a trip to a transport Museum in London. Details will follow. |
Other events/trips are being investigated, details will follow.
If you are interested in any of the trips or learning more about the S&T meetings please contact John Beer by e-Mail (science@wtu3a.org.uk) or at a U3A meeting.

Ironbridge Coracle Event on the Beeb …
A BBC unit attended the Ironbridge Coracle Festival that we (WTU3A and Bath U3A) were invited to take part in last month.
They were busy for the whole afternoon. However the fruits of their labour, amongst a lot of other coracly stuff, is 1’20” of frantic racing from this event including some of our brave coracle novices! This will be a part 2 of a six part series on Britain Afloat and will be shown on BBC2 on the 7th October.
It might be amusing/interesting to watch this live or on catch-up.
Are you Due for an MOT?

Buckinghamshire County Council published these notes for Older Drivers Awareness Week which is this week.
An odd title as its really about self-awareness as a driver. The proposals can dispel or confirm what one might not want to examine too closely giving justifiable confidence where its due or to refresh your skills and confidence – a good thing to have confirmed and definite proposals for areas of concern.
